SCAD wins top two prizes in Woodchuck Hard Cider video contest

Published: Dec 22, 2011

SCAD students recently won first and second place in Woodchuck Hard Cider’s 20th anniversary video contest. Professor Michael Ulichney’s Intro to Advertising and Professor Joerg Schodl’s Field Production Techniques classes collaborated to produce two 30-second spots for the national competition. The grand prize-winning team won $2,000 and the second place team won $1,500.

Contestants were challenged to create a video showing their passion for the product. Winners were chosen based on three criteria: how representative their video is of the Woodchuck brand; the video’s originality and creativity; and popularity as judged by the Woodchuck fan base.

“This type of collaborative experience is right on target for preparing ad students for their chosen careers,” Professor Ulichney said. “This was a wonderful learning experience and a great opportunity for ad students to have a high production quality television spot in their portfolios.”

The two classes collaborated on everything from concept and storyboarding to production and editing. Students also were used as on-camera talent.

“The idea was to create a real-world experience in which an advertising agency collaborates with a production company,” Professor Schodl said. “The teams were able to collaborate with one another to the fullest potential. I am very proud of our students.”
